FAQ

Questions GCs ask before they bid.

What is HVHZ and where does it apply?+

HVHZ (High-Velocity Hurricane Zone) applies in Miami-Dade and Broward counties under the Florida Building Code. HVHZ requires impact-rated systems with active Miami-Dade NOA approvals. ACG is experienced in HVHZ submittal and installation protocols and carries manufacturer NOAs on every HVHZ project.

What is a DP rating?+

DP (Design Pressure) rating specifies the structural and water-resistance capacity of a window or door system at a given building elevation. Higher floors and coastal exposures require higher DP ratings. ACG engineers DP-appropriate system selection from shop-drawing phase forward.

What is the difference between impact and hurricane-rated?+

"Impact" means the system has passed large-missile impact testing (ASTM E1886/E1996). "Hurricane-rated" is a more general marketing term. For code compliance in Florida — especially HVHZ — the spec should always say "impact-rated" and reference the NOA or Florida Product Approval.

Can ACG supply impact glazing for a GC in a non-HVHZ county?+

Yes. Florida Product Approval applies statewide. We install impact glazing in Lee, Collier, Palm Beach, Martin, St. Lucie, Hillsborough, Pinellas, and every county between.

How long are typical lead times on commercial impact systems?+

Standard impact storefront runs 6–10 weeks from approved shop drawings. Large-missile tested window wall 8–12 weeks. Custom impact sliders 10–14 weeks. ACG confirms firm lead times with a bid submission.
