Miami Market

The Most Technically Demanding
Glazing Market in the Country.

Miami is the commercial glazing contractor's most technically demanding market in the United States. Every project in Miami-Dade County falls within the High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) — a designation that triggers requirements far beyond standard Florida Building Code. In HVHZ, glazing subs who deliver FL approval numbers without corresponding Miami-Dade NOA documentation cannot pass plan review. GCs who have been burned by this know exactly what we're talking about.

The construction pipeline in Miami is enormous. Brickell's financial district continues its vertical expansion — tower after tower of high-performance curtainwall and window wall systems. The Design District mixed-use buildout requires high-specification storefront and specialty glazing. Wynwood's commercial corridor, Coral Gables' institutional and office market, Doral's industrial and warehousing explosion, Hialeah commercial, and the full Brickell City Centre plus Related Group development pipeline — all of it requires glazing subs who understand HVHZ at a technical level.

ACG's West Palm Beach headquarters is 70 miles north of Miami. We've been mobilizing crews to Miami-Dade for over a decade. We maintain active supply relationships with Miami-Dade distributors, have working knowledge of county building officials and their review standards, and run our project coordination through AI-managed scheduling that keeps complex Miami projects on timeline despite permit complexity.

What HVHZ Actually Means
for Your Glazing Scope.

High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ) is a Florida Building Code designation that applies to all of Miami-Dade and Broward counties. It was established after Hurricane Andrew (1992) exposed catastrophic failures in standard window and door systems. HVHZ requirements have remained among the most stringent building envelope standards in the world.

The critical distinction GCs must understand: HVHZ requires Miami-Dade NOA (Notice of Acceptance), not a standard Florida Product Approval (FL#). These are two separate approvals issued by two separate authorities. A glazing product can hold a valid FL approval number and still be prohibited from use in Miami-Dade County because it lacks the corresponding NOA.

Miami-Dade NOA testing follows TAS (Testing Application Standard) protocols — TAS 201 (impact), TAS 202 (uniform static air pressure), and TAS 203 (cyclic wind pressure loading). TAS testing is more demanding than the ASTM E1886/E1996 protocols used for standard FL approvals. Large missile impact resistance (9-lb 2x4 at 50 fps), cyclic pressure sequencing, and water infiltration testing at elevated pressures are all required before Miami-Dade BCCO issues an NOA.

NOA vs. Florida PA — Quick Reference
Florida Product Approval
  • Issued by DBPR (state)
  • ASTM test protocols
  • Valid statewide
  • Not sufficient for HVHZ
Miami-Dade NOA
  • Issued by Miami-Dade BCCO
  • TAS 201/202/203 protocols
  • Required in Miami-Dade & Broward
  • Required for HVHZ work
ACG NOA-Approved Systems
  • ESWindows — Commercial aluminum impact series; Miami-Dade NOA tested to TAS 201/202/203
  • ESWindows — Commercial series with current Miami-Dade NOA for high-rise and mid-rise applications
  • Slimpact — Narrow-profile impact system with NOA; preferred for Design District aesthetic requirements
  • Euro-Wall — Storefront & curtainwall; HVHZ-compliant systems with active NOA documentation

Common Questions

Miami Glazing FAQ.

Does ACG work in HVHZ areas like Miami-Dade? +

Yes. ACG is fully certified to work in Florida's High Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ), which covers all of Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Every system we install in HVHZ carries the required Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance (NOA) — not just a general Florida Product Approval. Our submittal packages include TAS-tested documentation, product approval numbers, and engineer-of-record sign-off built to pass Miami-Dade plan review on the first submission.

What glazing systems have Miami-Dade NOA approval? +

ACG installs multiple systems carrying Miami-Dade NOA approval, including ESWindows commercial series (NOA tested to TAS 201/202/203), ESWindows commercial series, and Slimpact impact systems. For storefront and curtainwall, we source Euro-Wall and PGT products with current Miami-Dade NOA numbers on file. We do not substitute NOA-approved products with standard Florida Product Approvals when working in Miami-Dade County.

What is the difference between a Florida Product Approval and a Miami-Dade NOA? +

Florida Product Approval (FL#) is the statewide approval issued by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation — sufficient for most of Florida. Miami-Dade NOA (Notice of Acceptance) is a separate, more rigorous county-level approval required specifically for HVHZ work in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. NOA testing follows TAS protocols — TAS 201 (large missile impact), TAS 202 (static pressure), TAS 203 (cyclic pressure) — which are more demanding than the ASTM tests used for FL approvals. A glazing sub showing up in Miami-Dade with only a FL approval number cannot legally install that system in HVHZ. This is one of the most common compliance failures ACG is called in to resolve.

How does ACG manage project coordination in Miami from its West Palm Beach office? +

ACG's West Palm Beach headquarters is approximately 70 miles north of Miami — a routine mobilization distance for a company that has been actively working in South Florida for 14+ years. We maintain established supply relationships with Miami-Dade distributors for ESWindows, CGI, and Euro-Wall, enabling local material staging and reduced lead-time exposure. Our AI-managed scheduling system coordinates crew dispatch, submittal tracking, and material delivery against your actual construction sequence. You get real-time status on every open item, not Monday morning emails.

What commercial glazing scopes does ACG handle in Miami? +

ACG handles the complete commercial glazing scope in Miami: HVHZ-rated impact windows and doors, commercial aluminum storefront systems, slab-to-slab curtainwall and window wall for towers and mid-rise, UL-certified fire-rated glass assemblies, automatic entrances, and interior glazed partitions. One sub. Every opening. We self-perform the installation — we do not broker the work to unknown crews. See our Fort Lauderdale page for Broward County project details.
